do you think that i will be able to tell buff orpingtons apart from a easter eggers?
im thinking the easter eggers will be brown and orpingtons light buff?

EEs and Orpingtons are easy to tell apart. EEs have puffy cheeks and often have chipmunk stripes, Orpingtons are yellow.

True. I'd forgotten that bit.

Easter Eggers tend to have greenish legs, Orpingtons tend to have white/pink legs.

Actually, EE babies can be nearly any color - mine were white at hatching - but they had the puffy cheeks and green or blue legs. There are many types of chicks that are chipmunk striped when young.

I said "often", not "always".

One of mine wasn't chipmunky at all.

are EE (eater eggers) and Americanas the same breed? I have a 'chimpmunk' looking girl and was thinking she was an Americana ~ could I be wrong?

What else might she be? She has yellow legs - only 3 weeks old.

g stone -

ameraucanas are easter eggers, but only some easter eggers are ameraucanas. there are breed standards for true ameraucanas. however since there are so few breeds that do green or blue eggs, a lot of feed stores and sellers label all peeps that are crossed with amers as if they were true, so you can't always trust the label. this year my husband bought 4 amer pullets from the feed store, and the vendor said the eggs might be tan, pink, or turquoise... to me that means they are actually a wider ee cross but he was selling them as amer.

doesn't matter a whole lot to me, but if we wanted to file them with the ameraucana breeders club, they would have to have all the correct characteristics to qualify. (looked it up just a few days ago!)

okay, good to know. Thanks for all the info! So would a true amerucana have greenish colored legs? I wonder what my girl will lay for me.
