I know Easter Eggers aren’t really a breed as much as a collection of mixes so there’s a lot of variation, but I have some general questions.

1. Are EEs generally fairly small? These two girls are about 3 weeks younger than my Barred Rock (18 weeks and 21 weeks) and they’re so small, even when I compare them to where the BR was three weeks ago. I know BRs are fairly chunky, so that probably makes the difference seem even larger.

2. In a similar vein, are EEs generally slow to mature? My BR laid her first egg a week ago, and has had a full, red comb for over a month. These two, not so much.

3. Is there any way to predict what colour egg an EE is likely to lay, without knowing the parents?

It really depends on the parents. I’ve got both big and small EEs.

It depends on the bird! Some girls take their sweet time to begin laying, it shouldn’t be anything to worry about.

Unfortunately, no. But I consider not knowing to be the fun of EEs!

Good luck with your birds, they’re cuties!
