Easter eggers!

So last night i lost my favorite chicken, Bertha, a beautiful black and white Easter egger. she was blinded trying to protect her friend that is injured, Betty also an Easter egger. they were best friends and even when she couldn't see she would seek out Betty to lay next to. She stopped drinking a few days ago and im not sure if she ate anything. but i love the breed and would like some more is there any hatcheries that have true Easter eggers or are they claiming easter eggers? in a few weeks after our last batch of chicks grow up and leave the brooder i could like to get some!

Most hatcheries supply Easter Eggers, they just like to call them Ameraucanas or Araucanas instead. Easter Eggers aren't a true breed. The birds that hatcheries breed and sell are based on Ameraucana or Araucana stock, with other laying breeds bred in to increase their production rates.

Easter Eggers are hybrids produced by crossing blue egg layers with brown egg layers to produce offspring that lay eggs in colors other than just blue (olive, green, beige, and sometimes even pale pink). Hatcheries frequently and incorrectly market their Easter Eggers under the labels Ameraucana or Araucana which are true breeds that lay only blue eggs.
