I am going to be building a chicken coop and would like to use cedar. I know there are two types. Western red cedar and eastern red cedar. Is one better/safer than the other? I am going to build a quaker style with a walk in door and 2 working windows. 4 X 6 and 6 feet tall.

Any help would be great :)

Thanks,

I can't see how it would affect them. The lumber used in construction isn't going to break down like wood shave bedding so it shouldn't emit anything harmful to them, especially with a good amount of ventilation.

Thank you!

I read the eastern might have some more oil content and that might not be good for the chickens (fumes). It looks like western is preferred but I wasn't sure how much of a difference there would be.
