Hey guys i'm Andrea and I'm new around here. We are about to get our first chicks ever. Like I've never even seen a chicken in person so it's all kinda new and scary. My husband has some experience with chickens as his grandparents had a farm. Anyway I hope this is in the right spot for this. I'm sorry if it's not.

We are getting some Rhode Island Reds. I read they are good for eggs and also eating. I was just wondering when is the best age to kill them for food. Like when would they be most tender? Like I read they tend to get tough when they get older. We ordered 15 chicks and I was hoping to eat at least two or three of them. I realize there are better breeds for eating but this being our first time we wanted to keep it simple. What killing methods do you recommend? Also what are the best ways to eat them? Like should I stick to using them for soups and stews or can I branch out into other dishes? Thanks in advance! :)
