eating first egg

I know you shouldn't try to hatch the first egg, they are normally infertile.
If it's a normal egg (or even a wind egg) you can eat it. You could probably eat a soft shelled egg too, but I wouldn't recommend it since there's no hard shell to protect from things it may come in contact with. But I'd feed Em to my dogs or back to the chickens.

I agree if it has a normal shell and looks normal inside then I would eat it. If you get eggs that do not have a shell or a thin leathery shell I would dispose of them or cook them and to feed to a pet. I have read a lot of books on chickens and I have never read that you should not eat the first eggs laid. Though I have heard and read that they should not be hatched.

Okay I found where I read it.Murray McMurray chickens in five minutes a day. Page 32 under the paragraph collecting the eggs it says first eggs will be small and usually soft , but don't eat it

I ate my first egg...it wasn't soft though. Shared it with the girl who gave it to me :)
