Eating insulation from the side of the house

I caught (I think) my RIR pecking some insulation (foam, fiberglass?) off of the side of our house today.

My dad put a board up and also some bonding sand (I'm not sure if that the right name, but its the type that hardens when you put water on it) down in an attempt to cover up the spot that was getting pecked at. I did noticed some blackish looking poops today that might have been from the insulation. I stayed outside with them to keep them from pecking at the wet bonding sand. Do I need to be worried about permanent damage from the insulation and/or from pecking at the hardened sand tomorrow when I'm not there?

Chickens will destroy any insulation available! The foam board coating that's like mortar should work, as long as there are no gaps. Mary
