Thanks for the info and tips! This section is under a tree, but we’ve also gotten a good amount of snow and rain this past year. Honestly, the whole fence needs replacing. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, this section is being held up by a pole I swap back and forthI've noticed my gals love to pick moss off wood, but that photo looks like there is some insect damage to your fence.
If you're concerned about fence damage or your birds eating treated wood, definitely block access.
If it's a fence you want to keep, a product labeled "wood restorer" would help stop some of the rot. If it was me I'd slap some of that on any darker spots on both sides. I've been very satisfied with wood restorer. It worked wonders under a leaky window while renovating my old house. It will change the color of the wood where applied however.
Is the fence getting dripped on from a roof or something similar?
