Eating the fence

I've noticed my gals love to pick moss off wood, but that photo looks like there is some insect damage to your fence.

If you're concerned about fence damage or your birds eating treated wood, definitely block access.

If it's a fence you want to keep, a product labeled "wood restorer" would help stop some of the rot. If it was me I'd slap some of that on any darker spots on both sides. I've been very satisfied with wood restorer. It worked wonders under a leaky window while renovating my old house. It will change the color of the wood where applied however.

Is the fence getting dripped on from a roof or something similar?
Thanks for the info and tips! This section is under a tree, but we’ve also gotten a good amount of snow and rain this past year. Honestly, the whole fence needs replacing. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, this section is being held up by a pole I swap back and forth 😅 Neither is or the neighbours can afford to fix it, so we both patch sections as needed

Haha, so is our fence!! We are even propping one section up with a wood palette :D It's a LOT of fence to replace so we are also doing it in patch sections...it will likely need to be replaced the next big windstorm, but for now we are making due and apparently feeding the chickens! :p

And someone (?) is eating trim on the Cochin Bantams' coop.
Promise that's the Buff geese. lol Mine ate their way into my bantam Cochin coop as well. I can only imagine what the girls thought as the stupid things were chewing through the hinged roof of the nest box area.
or maybe this...
