Hi all,

I'm planning on getting the Ecoglow 600 heat plate(the smallest model) for brooding my 5 chicks this spring. In early summer, I'm getting 2 Roman Tufted goslings. Will this plate be adequate? I am very adverse to getting a heat lamp for safety reasons.

I have this model, here's a picture so you can judge the size for yourself

Within a week or two goslings will be too big for that her plate. I used a heat lamp. As long as it's secured properly, the birds can't touch the bulb, and the correct bulb is used for the socket type it will be fine. I only provided extra heat for a few weeks for mine.

I was thinking of raising it further by standing it on wood maybe; once it's reached max height

Should be reasonably warm by the time I get them, the breeders geese usually lay in mid march and as I understand it, it usually takes roughly 28 - 31 days to hatch? So I'm guessing I will have goslings by mid to late April..3 - 4 weeks inside and it'll be June, Summer and hopefully warm enough to discard the heater.
