I look at these pictures in the coop section and on here, and they are beautiful, but not all practical for what I need. I'm needing to build at least 3 coops/runs for breeding.

They dont need to be pretty at all. I'm looking for a pen idea for about 8 (guessing here) standard chickens, another for 6 bantams, and one or two more for quads of bantams.

What sizes do they need to be. I'm interested in some I've seen that are short coops, that the tops open on, or sides, without doors to walk into them.

What are the reccommended sizes for these amounts of chickens, for both the coop and the run.

Pictures or designs much appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!

You need 3 to 4 square feet per bird. Protection from the elements and predators. Plenty of ventilation when it's hot yet not drafty when it's cold. Convenience for you to clean, feed, and do all the other chicken care things. Build bigger than you think you need for those unexpected additions.

It doesn't need to be fancy or expensive. Just functional.

To the left is an 8 X 8 addition. Center is a 12 X 18 or so converted outbuilding with a wire partition inside, right is the fully covered run which is about 8 X 12.
