Just curious about when EE's usually start laying eggs, or at least your personal experience! I know it depends on individual hens, but any input is good input

When did your EE's start laying?

My EE was my first hen to start laying (I have an Australorp, a Rhode Island Red, a Barred Rock, Silkies and Sebrights). She started around 24 weeks I believe.

EEs can start laying at any age acceptable for a chicken. I'm not sure there's much average since there's no telling what breeds make up your particular EEs. I know some people on here have waited forever for theirs to lay. The strain I got all laid at 16weeks.

One of my EEs started to lay, but I'm not sure when. My other EE is the same age as the other one, but she hasn't laid her first egg yet

Ours starting laying around 16-18 weeks, which is early. Our BRs did too.

Not sure why and I am sure it isn't normal, but they are still great layers at 2-1/2 yrs old!

At about 20 weeks. OK layers, not as good as some of our other hens. We find the variety of shells interesting, not just colors but textures, too. Some have calcium bumps on them that are hard, some have bumps that will rub off. Some are smooth. 4 of ours lay green, two lay blue. The shells are usually not as thick as our other breeds. The hens are total characters!
