I have one (maybe two, not sure yet) EE X Silkie crosses and should start laying in 1-2 months. I was wondering, how does egg color genetics work? The mother lays greenish, almost olive eggs and the father is a silkie (his sisters lay pinkish eggs) so what are the chances I will get green eggs from this pullet? Or white/brown/olive? I would also like to know how the genetics work for future references... Thanks!

I'm not 100% but Silkies are supposed to lay white eggs, so If the Silkies sisters are laying pinkish eggs then they aren't pure Silkie.

Otherwise Olive plus white can result in any color egg I think. Since Olive=blue+brown, mixing white in there brings all possibilities out.

Not sure how to set up a square on the computer....blue plus brown equals green. There are multiple modifiers to the brown genes that give different colors, the dark Marans brown to the creamy Cochin brown.

Mom has one blue gene, one brown gene. Dad has probably two brown genes (pink is genetically brown). Each parent gives one gene to each chick. So I'm thinking 50% chance some shade of green, and 50% some shade of brown, maybe with that pinkish hue.

Thanks! And I guess I shouldn't have said pink. Its more of a creamy white...
