EE's boy or girl???

You can sex them anywhere from a couple weeks on. EE's are a mixed breed birds, so there is no set leg color, they can be any color.

Easter Eggers are a mixed breed, so they can have any color of leg.

You can sex them at about 5 weeks old, but sometimes if they're a duckwing based color you can sex them even earlier than that.

I have done some research on Ameraucanas verses Easter Eggers and this is what I found out. Ameraucanas came from the Araucana (South America) chicken and have to follow the American Poultry Association qualities to be accepted to show. An Easter Egger is a mixed breed that could have Ameraucana or Araucana in their lineage. They both lay a blue to greenish egg. The Ameraucana should not have feathers on their legs. I had a beautiful Easter Egger that has feathers on her legs and she was very broody. My Ameraucanas are clean legged. Most people do not know what they have. I bought my Ameraucanas from breeders that knew the difference. Hope that helps.

I have to say that the advice I have seen on sexing EEs is really mixed. Most people seem to claim that it is very difficult to determine gender of EEs until they are much older and the true "roo" characteristics come out like feathering and coloring. From what I have gathered, there are a couple of gender patterns that can indicate male or female earlier.

Admittedly, I'm completely new at this. But after reading the boards for a few weeks in hopes of some insight, I am only more confused.
