Can EEs with a straight comb lay blue/green eggs? Here's a pic of my girl. She's about 4 months old in this picture, but now she's 5 months and not laying yet. Her comb is getting a much brighter red. I'm new at this. Thanks

They CAN, but does not mean she will. That's just something you have to wait and see. Some of my ameraucanas almost look like they have tiny single combs, but they are actually pea, and they lay blue eggs.

She's gorgeous, BTW!

Oh, she is just gorgeous. I love her!

Will you please update when she does start laying? I'd love to see what she lays.

I'll see if I can't get a close up of her comb. When she does lay, I'll be sure and let everyone know. Thanks for all your responses.

Wow, it's alot harder to get a chicken to hold their head still than I thougth! This is the best picture I could get of her comb. Not only is it straight, but it's quite flat. It has no points on it like my red sex link's does. Anyway, she is a beautiful bird regardless of what color eggs I end up with. The lady who sold her to me called her an ameraucana, but she didn't spell it for me. As I've learned over the past 24 hrs or so of reading on this website, she could have been saying americana (ee), and of course, I had no idea of what kind of comb to look for. Thanks for all your comments.

I have one more question for all you pros out there. I've been reading alot of threads and people will post pictures asking if they have an ameraucana or an EE. It seems like ya'll just look at a picture and know for sure. What is it that tips you off? Is it the coloring? This chicken has some rust color to her feathers instead of being solid blue. I'm just curious. Waiting to see what color her eggs will be is pure sweet torture - I get home every day and rush out to the coop to see if she's had her first egg yet.LOL
