In the Brooder
I bought 5 chicks from a local chicken keeper. She told me that the chicks were from a RIR rooster and Ameraucana hen. I’m very familiar with the whole Ameraucana vs. Easter Egger scam. I don’t think she was in any way trying to scam me. I just don’t know how knowledgeable she is and whether or not she herself got scammed. I’m really not sure which one they are, but figured I’d buy them anyway and find out. I have a couple of questions though.
Let’s say the mother was actually a true Ameraucana (not likely, I know), what would the offspring (my chicks) be considered? Some say RIR are not dark enough egg layers to get an olive egger and some say they are. Would they just be Easter Eggers? And if I mixed these olive Eggers or Easter Eggers with another brown layer would I be more likely to end up with brown eggs or some other color of egg? I understand these are annoying questions that I should know the answers to but I won’t know the answers unless I ask.
