So in the learning curve of hatching my own eggs...I did not mark at all the eggs I put in the incubator. :he What an idiot right?!
So Ive had 3 littles hatch, and candle some of the others to check their progress. This little Silkie had NO movement. Aircell had been ruptured, but no tears in the membrane. There was some yolk left. Lots of fluid when cracked open. And I could see bloody spots when I candled it.
I have been running drier hatches. But knew that some were close to hatching so the last few days Ive put it back to 50-55.
Im guess due to this shell this egg did not lose enough moisture???? The membrane was wet and not at all "shrink wrapped".
I really want to perfect my hatching. I hatched at 78% last hatch. If I get better by 1 egg next time, I will be happy!

Please pass along thoughts and or advice for staggering the hatches of your own eggs!!!

That one made it very close to the end! So frustrating!

Sometimes that happens.

You said you were running a dry hatch but did not say what the humidity was. Dry hatch is any humidity lower than traditional. If you go below 30%, you risk a bad outcome.

The liquid in the eggs is absorbed by the chick during development. If humidity is to low, the chick will not develop well and there will be liquid left.

Try incubating at 35% next time and I would try the once a day cooling cycle method.

So frustrating! The Silkies have hatched quite well otherwise, so I am pleased overall.
I was getting humidity to 50% and then letting it dry up to the upper 20s before adding more water. I need to get additional unit to measure temp and humidity. Ive been using the built in. Hatch rate is 77-80%.
I did read the attached article! Very interesting, and makes total sense. Maybe if I have a few more hatches go well, I will upgrade to a Brinsea as my 2nd bator!
I love love hatching my own eggs. Something even more rewarding about it!
Thanks for the info!

Any time!

You can manually run a cool down cycle but brinsea incubators are very good at hatching chicks
