Hi all
I have a white leghorn who has been egg bound twice now (she is only 1 yr old). Both times I have managed to massage the eggs out. The first time it was one egg and it was just about ready to come out but very dry (this time I believe she had worms) I have treated her religiously for worms since then but she ended up getting severely egg bound again about 6 months later. This time there were 2 eggs (one hard and one soft) and it took hours to get them out! To me it felt like she was contracting and she was constantly wincing in pain. I provide all my hens with unlimited access to organic layer mash, shell grit and fresh water and only give limited treats every 2nd day or so, they each have their own nesting area also. I am just wondering if there is anything I can be doing to stop her from getting egg bound again in future? It was really stressful seeing her in so much pain.
