Egg bound, favorite hen died!

I am crying my eyes out right now. I just lost the most beautiful Wheaten Amerucana Bantam pullet. Her name is Banana, and her birthday was in two weeks. She was going to become a hen, and I lost her! I miss her so much. We think she was egg bound. Was there anything I could of done? I was at school and came back to find her on her side in the corner stiff. She never showed any signs. I feel like its my fault. How can you tell if they were egg bound?
