Egg Bound Hen, gigantic egg?

Sorry for what you are going thru....I have been there too. My chickens are my pets and I did not plan on killing any of them....however after a couple of days and nothing you are doing is helping ...the hen is suffering it is time to end her suffering and put her out of her misery. I would cull her sooner than later.

Edited to add Thread.

This is my thread when I went thru it, if you want to read it.

Thank you all for the additional responses. This really is a great forum and online community, i've learned a lot reading through threads and love the support everyone gives. really a wonderful thing.

As an update - still no egg. I can feel it in there. I'm afraid they're collecting in there.

She doesn't have much meat on her, i was so concerned about feeling for an egg that i didn't realize how boney she is. She's eating plenty and pooping a lot and still has some spunk in her. I was keeping her inside for several days and let her out with the others for a few hours here and there. She goes to a nesting box when they all go in the coop.

I keep thinking we'll have to cull her, but she still has too much life in her. We had a hen die a couple years ago that was way more lethargic. I guess all I can do is keep an eye on her and keep her warm at night, give her good food in the am and let her out during the day. Anyone ever try oregano oil for infections? I know its awesome in humans.

thanks again!

There are many things (most esp. viruses) which disrupt laying, and the whole EYP thing comes into play, and the odd masses others have recovered afterwards ... for what it's worth, it causes me and others to give the whole thing more thought, 'cause there oughta be devices to clean 'em, and possibly even ways to intentionally prevent any production at all.

But, I'm sorry to say, there not ... and, there's really nothing further you can do.
