sophie is almost 5.5 months and started laying about 6 weeks ago. she’s had a few soft shelled eggs come out in the evening after laying earlier that day. she has layer feed (although she steals from the 9 week old chicks grower feed) and has access to oyster shells.
this week she’s had a lot of issues like a yolk came out whole before the rest of it and the membrane was hanging out her vent we had to take a bath to get it out

the next day i could tell she was working hard so we did an epsom bath once again and while i was drying her off out came the egg and shell not attached

no egg saturday and today she’s been egg bound all day
i tried baths but she really wanted out
i brought her inside and she’s been drinking water that i mixed calcium citrate + D3 into (i’ve been trying to get her to eat it all week but couldn’t get much more than a few crushed bits) and water with electrolytes but she hasn’t eaten since this morning.
she’s just been standing with her eyes closed. her comb basically deflated and her feathers are ruffled. so i’m sure she’s egg bound on a soft shell or something and the outlook doesn’t seem very good but please let me know if there is anything more i can be doing for her!!
also here is an excel sheet of her laying if it’s of interest or use!

I would give her 1 Caltrate with D3 once a day for a week. Give her the tablet, don't mix it with her water.

Since it looks like the shell membrane is also possibly rupturing, there's a good chance that egg has spilled into the oviduct. This can make them feel really bad and can also cause infection. If she were mine, I would give her an antibiotic. Amoxicillin is a good choice. You can order it online or sometimes it can be found in feed stores like TSC. Look for Fish Mox.
Dose for Amoxicillin is 57mg per pound of weight given orally twice a day for 10-14 days.

Keeping her hydrated is important so you are doing the right thing there. She may be reluctant to eat, but do make it available. Going a day without eating is not too bad as long as she's drinking.

she just passed away
:hugs I'm sorry to hear that.

You did ask a question, so I will answer it for your future information. Calcium tablets do look big, but a hen can swallow it fine. If you want to, you can split the pill and give the hen smaller pieces - there's no problem with doing it that way too.
