Hi all! I need some help. I have a hen that I believe is egg bound. She is standing straight up, tail down, not interested in food or water and sits alone in the corner in the coop. J thought at first she had a prolapsed vent because she is buldging but, after doing some online research, it seems she is egg bound. I have had her in warm water baths, massaged the protruding area and coated the exposed area with honey to help with the swelling. I have tried to explore her vent internally and believe I felt an egg. I know this may sound dumb, but I can't seem to find an opening to pull the egg out of or an exit in which the egg wound pass... Any suggestions??? She is straining so hard and I feel terrible watching her go through this. Please help me
Thank you!

Actually it doesn't sound completely odd. I recall one case where the egg was sticking partway out of the chicken but covered with a membrane, which was part of the wall of the oviduct. A vet surgically opened the wall and removed the egg, as I recall. Yours does not sound like a good outcome is likely, frankly. I also read one recommendation to aspirate the egg contents with a needle, then carefully collapse the egg, trying to keep the shell fragments "stuck together" with the egg's inner membrane, as a last resort. I'm not at all sure you could do that successfully if the egg is covered in oviduct wall that is stretched out of place, but I suppose it could be tried, right through the oviduct tissue.

I wish I had a suggestion for you that I felt would actually help.

Have you tried giving her a human calcium pill or you can give a calcium injection. the feed store usually has calcium injectable make sure its calcium glutenate that's the calcium a vet will inject and egg bound hen with to make her lay. After you get her to lay you can Address the prolapse. But the calcium will help with muscle contractions and help her expel her egg. Hope this helps and good luck.
