I have an EE hen that lays pale blue eggs. For the last 3 days I have not had a single blue egg. She stays in the nesting box and will get out if I make her. Since spring is here and we are starting a garden I have used my childrens trampoline with chicken wire around it to put them in. So far it is working good. I made her go to the "playpin" today and she is eating, drinking and acting like everyone else. As soon and she went went back into the barn she jumped back up into the nesting box. I have checked her underside and can not feel anything like an egg, but then again doesn't the egg harden when it hits the air so would it be smushy while its inside of her? From what I understand if she was broody she would pull her feathers out on the underside. Right???

Please help!!!!

Edited to add that when she is in the nesting box her feathers are puffed out.

i am definately not an expert, but have had this happen. if you suspect she is egg bound, you could rub her vent with olive oil to help the egg slide out. also a warm 'butt' bath might relax her. my experience has been i can feel the hard egg when it's close to exiting, sometime i can see it. last resort for me was to break the egg gently and pull the pieces out carefully as not to cut her. good luck

Sounds like she is broody to me. One of my girls is broody but she hasn't pecked out any of her feathers as of yet (its been about 4-5 days so far) I don't know about the egg getting hard as soon as it hits air...if it does it has to happen VERY fast. I only say this because I've seen 2 of my girls lay an egg right in front of me and I immediately picked it up. My one girl wasn't using the nesting box at that time and I saw and heard it hit the wooden floor. It would have to happen with a second or two. I've tried to feel for an egg before its laid and I can never feel anything either..I don't think. I feel something but I think its her bones? Maybe I am feeling an egg, I'm not sure
