I have about a year old zombie hen that I noticed discharge from her lower tail feathers. After looking further I could see her vent was swollen and hard. I soaked her in warm water with dawn soap. I can feel pieces of broken egg in her vent and was able to remove a few pieces after her bath. She has had a few bowl movements since then and is eating and drinking water. There is still broken egg in her vent and discharge. What are next steps? With it being Sunday I have availability to a vet.

I agree, I'd get some Calcium Citrate+D3 and give her 1 tablet now, then once daily for 5days.

You are finding actual shell pieces in the vent or is it just gritty material.

If she did have an egg break inside the vent, then if she were mine, I'd give her an antibiotic to help prevent infection. Amoxicillin is a good choice. Dose is 57mg per pound of weight given orally twice a day for 7-10days.
