This morning I witnessed a couple of hens pecking at something that looked like egg white no shell was around. Normally I get 5-6 eggs each day. Today only 4. Could this be th result of secretion from being egg bound?

Are you sure they're getting enough calcium? Shell less eggs are often linked to calcium deficiencies

Shell less eggs are also connected with Vitamin D-3 deficiency. And phosphorus deficiency. What are you feeding? Are the birds getting sunlight during the day?

They have available sunlight most of the day. I feed them Kent Home Fresh Extra Egg 16
Contains extra calcium for strong shells.. The shells of our eggs are very strong and many have double yolks.

I also give them greens oiled sunflower seeds and other scraps . They especially love watermelon rinds.

It's possible one laid a shell-less egg, because sometimes it seems they just do that. Or could they have buried or eaten any shell?

We put an infrared lamp in our coop for the cold days and nights here in Michigan. Because we couldn't see what they do after sundown we believed they just stayed on the roost and slept.. Now with the heat lamp there is enough light to see them milling around after they have roosted.. Is this ok or will it screw their natural clocks? Theft seem to be laying normally. :(
