Hi everyone. I’m new here and about a year experience with my backyard flock. I’ve been trying since they started laying to place which egg with which bird. I have 8 different breeds. I for sure know some and have guesses for others. If you guys could post me some pictures of the egg and what chicken it came from that could help me out a lot. Thank you in advance!
Buff Orpington
Black australorp
Bared Plymouth Rock
Golden comet
Speckled Sussex
Welsummer

The Welsummer likely lays the darkest egg. All the others lay brown so it will be tough to tell. Best way is to put a little food coloring in the vent. Then you can tell which bird it came from.

Other two brownish ones are from Australorp
Blueish is Easter Egger.

So I know for sure (top to bottom)
White leghorn
Easter Egger
Then I think
Golden Comet
Black australorp
Then I have no clue
This one always has white speckles
This one is like red with dark brown freckles all over

I learn something new on BYC every day. Mine all lay different coloured eggs but never would have thought of that!

Great advice on how he food coloring. Now don't the maran lay the darkest eggs? I have two black hens who lay very dark eggs I always thought they came from maron line. I just bought six maron pullets it'll be July or so before they lay, now very excited to see there eggs.

They do, but out of the breeds that the OP has, the Welsummer is the one that will lay the darkest egg.

Maybe what I have bought young after a science project. Boy said they are just farm chickens. Lol

Maybe it’s my Welsummer that lays the brown freckled one. The one I think is my Orpingtons is because when they first started laying she was the one I caught in there after. I’ve never seen my Welsummer in the box.

The two darkest ones here are from the Welsummers.
