I was once told the only dumb question is the one not asked.. lol
so here goes.......Is there any way to tell which egg came from which bird, if there are several breeds in one pen?
here is a pic of the eggs I have...

Coturnix quail are the only 'breed'. There are several different varieties (colors), but they are still the same breed. Think of it like Old English Game Bantams. There are at least 20 different varieties, but they are still oegb.

It seems that most of my hens lay similar-looking eggs for themselves, meaning that each hen's eggs look similar to every other egg that the particular hen has laid. But as for knowing which egg came from which color bird, there is no way to tell.

I just have to say what beautiful eggs you all have! I love the little spots. That's interesting that hens will lay similar looking eggs. I love the dark mottled eggs especially.

As Shelley says, they are all the same thing and all lay the same type of eggs. Individual hens can lay individual eggs for themselves but you cannot always rely on this as some days a hen may put MORE oclor on her egg or less color...or spots when she normally doesnt put spots. I notice this a lot when I have only one hen per pen, somedays she'll lay large black spotted eggs, other days, a milkie egg with very faint RED spots, then another day a really brown stippled egg

I DO notice that my tuxedo and tibetan strains seem to lay pointier shaped eggs (most of the time though sometimes they lay normal coturnix eggs so you cant rely on this) with normally a green or blue tint when compaired ot the other eggs. A & Ms also sometimes seem to lay the eggs that look like someone smeared htem in chocolate, BUT i've also seen jumbo browns lay these eggs.

And I've also seen A & Ms lay normal spotted eggs...so its' very inaccurate to rely on egg color shape or size unless you've got one hen in a pen and she's laying a consistant color size and shape

If I don't keep my A&M eggs seperate from my jumbos when I'm collecting, I can't tell them apart. One of my tuxedo hens lays a blue egg also, and the others (tux and tibetan) lay eggs that are normal looking except they also have white spots on them. My one pharaoh hen lays eggs like this too

My jumbos are the ones that lay pointy eggs

Goofy birds, just goes to show that there is no way to tell!
