Hen (Little Bit) as been brooding on eggs for at least 3 wks now, thought since there has been cold nights, eggs may not be vialble. Went to candle one today, and dropped it, cracked it, no 'fluids came out', appears the egg is fertile--afraid Mom won't accept egg back since I put band-aids on the cracks--any suggestions of what the best course of action for me to do next?

Hi! I use masking tape to cover the crack (when I find one). Just poke the egg back in the nest and the hen won't know the difference.
I hope your hatch goes well.
Good luck!

Thanks, I'll try that after it gets dark, cradling egg in the upper body support system right now

LOL-hopefully it will be, put egg back and mom never gave it a second look

I had that happen to one of three eggs that my broody is on and ironically two have stopped forming, but the one with the crack is showing possible development. I dripped candle wax over the crack. :o)

Forget everything poste before. This is what to do put a little bit of clear nail polish over the crack to seal let dry and incubate. Its had succes.
