In a previous life, I was a scientist, so I am measuring my eggs with a vernier caliper and a gram balance.

Are weight, height and width consistent for eggs from the same chicken? If not, what causes variability?

Don't you think the outside measurments would be a waste of time without taking into account shell thickness? Then you will need to seperate the yoke (weight and size) to see how that affects the overall dimensions of the shell.

OR..... you could just save a lot of time and eat the egg.

I have been getting some exceptionally large eggs lately. I thought they would be double yokers but they weren't. Here is a picture of a couple of huge eggs next to some regular eggs. I wish I would have put something next to them like a quarter for a size comparison.
