We have nine layers and one or more of them are enjoying the eggs! We've tried blowing the egg out and filling it with mustard, tabasco, and cayenne pepper a couple of times. I watched them go nuts over it. The hotness seemed to only make them go at it faster. It's hard to figure out which one is doing it. Any new ideas? When we built a new coop, we tried hard to keep them out of the nesting box at night, but since then, we haven't been as diligent in checking it each night. I know they're sleeping in the boxes, because they're always full of poo.

How old are your chickens? One or two of mine tried to sleep in the boxes when they were first moved in there and every night I moved them out and put in a plastic bottle so they couldn't get in. You could do that. You don't have to use a bottle, some people use a thing of 6 bottles or anything else to just stop them from getting in. Then take it out every morning so they can use them for the day. Don't know what to tell you about the egg eating though. Never had that.

Thank you. The bottles sound like an easier way to keep them out of the nests than what we had tried. About half of our chickens are 2 years old and the others are 1 year. They all lay around one egg a day, give or take a few.
