Went out to collect my eggs this afternoon and this is what I found. The little egg is about the size of a quail egg. Never had this small an egg from any chicken I ever raised, not even a pullet.
I do have 3 pullets in my flock two of them are 24 weeks and have been laying since week 19. One is a heritage Orp who hasn't layed yet and she is 28 weeks, at least I haven't caught her on the nest yet so not sure.
So have anyone of you out there had a egg this small from a large breed chicken? Should this be of concern? or is it just a fluke?

Keep chickens long enough and you'll see wind eggs from time to time.
The first one I can remember was from a Jersey Giant that had been laying 65-70 gram eggs. I truly thought an acorn found its way into the nest.
I got one about 3 weeks ago.
More than likely there is no yolk in the egg, just albumen.
I would venture to say that the egg is smaller than the yolks I had for breakfast this morning!:lol:

Oh, this made me :lol::gig!!!

Have had a few fart eggs from LF hens....usually near the before or after of production around molting.
Yeah, it is almost always near the end of a long laying cycle, like a 12-18 months.
I've been told it happens when the reproductive system is played out for a while and needs a rest. I also believe it could be some particle sloughed off near the ovaries that kick start the egg cycle without a yolk actually dropping into the infundibulum.

I think the acorn incident was in fall when we were getting a lot of acorns falling and it looked just like one without the cap.:idunno

Well 11 of my flock is in that 12-18 month range and I have a barred rock starting to loose feathers, they're all over the run and coop so maybe that's what is happening
