I have a question. How do you keep hens from damaging or pecking eggs, if you have to be gone for a few days?

do you have a friend or neighbor who you could trust do gather them for you while your gone? that would be all i could think of.

If you're only gone occasionaly a neighbor or friend that would collect (and keep) the eggs is probably your best option. On the rare occasions we get away for the weekend I like to have someone stop by anyhow just in case something goes wrong with the water etc.

If you are going to be gone often and have things set up to where you're comfortable that the water and feed will always be fine it may be worthwhile to build some roll away nest boxes so the eggs don't build up inside the nests. I think Opa has a thread with pictures of his if you want to check it out.
