Egg has HUGE glob of unknown stuff in it!

This egg comes from a chicken I just got (see the story in the link below). I'm seeing something that looks like a spider web in that glob of stuff ... what on earth?!!! I'm hoping this is normal and it's not some nasty worms!

Do you have a rooster? That looks like it could be a dead embryo.

Yes I have a rooster but I just got these chickens yesterday and the egg was laid this afternoon

If you’re sure that the egg was laid yesterday then I’m not sure what it could be. But it looks like blood.

I had a hen who once laid bloody eggs. She did it occasionally, then pretty much every egg had it. The eggs are fine to cook and feed back to the chickens, but it is kind of gross to see. It is more common for the blood to be in the albumen (white,) but it can occur in the yolk. Let me find a link to read about this problem.

Small blood spots can be normal, but a large bloody egg can be from some hemorrhage in the oviduct. Let us know if it happens again. Here is a link to read
