We lost our flock in October and are wanting to hatch the eggs this time as a fun learning experience for our children. I'd like to purchase an automatic egg hatcher that turns the eggs, keeps humidity and temp correct, etc. (as fool-proof as possible). Does anyone reccomend a specific one that is a good value?

Also, we are hoping for 8-12 chicks of various breeds (we keep chickens for eggs and pets). Where would be the best place to buy eggs? When do I vaccinate the chicks?

Or, am I better off buying chicks from a place that already has vaccineated the chicks?

Any tips, etc. are appreciated!

Welcome to BYC!!!! :)

I think it would be easier to buy from a place that vaccinates. If you go to incubating and hatching section of this forum you will find the answers to your questions.

I can't recommend a specific incubator, but have a look at the incubator reviews here:

For hatching eggs, you'll find wonderful links and advice on this thread:

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

Sumi has given you a lot to think about. You can check for local people that may have hatching eggs on your state thread in the Where am I - Where are you section of the forum. I enjoy hatching, but it can really be a gamble.

Thank you all! I decided to order from McMurray! 1 of "everything", hehe:D
