I have an assortment of egg laying chicks ordered but was wondering if there is a breed of chickens that would house nicely with my egg-layers long enough for them to grow for us to eat? I would really like to try raising some chickens for food but I have read that meat birds need different food and the coop I am building they would all be together until the meat birds were big enough to slaughter. Any suggestions on breeds I could house together and have on the same feed?
