Hi Everyone.
I have a 9 month old hen that laid almost daily from day one, but over the past two months this is my issue.
She laid a soft egg about 2 months ago on the ground. Normally has hard eggs and no issues, but ever since that day she has only been able to successfully lay 1 egg which was 3 weeks ago. I have 7 other hens that are the same age and they lay daily. She tries and tries. I do not feel she is broody bc she sits for a bit and pants in one of the many boxes we have for them and then plays. Then she will try and try again and just cannot seem to lay.
I have gone to all extremes... preperation H, felt for lodged eggs, she has oyster shells in two easily areas to get to, I feed them B12, I scramble eggs with crushed up shells. She just cannot seem to lay. Oh and layer food of course
What am I missing here??? She plays, eats, drinks, walks fine ect

Is this one of the same birds that was sick with a respiratory disease a few months back?

I'm like @KikisGirls is this the same pullet that laid this egg? https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/bloody-eggs-with-mucus.1229319/#post-19724023
You mention in the older thread you have been battling respiratory illness in your flock, unfortunately, illness does influence laying and the reproductive system.

Feel of your pullet's abdomen. Does she have any swelling, bloat or feeling of fluid? If she acts like she is trying and trying to lay an egg, but then one never seems to come, she may be laying internally.

Usually once you have a respiratory disease run through your flock it makes them carriers of the disease for life, not always but most of the time.
Unfortunately chicken diseases cause problems even when you can't see the same signs you were seeing back then.

May I suggest you read up on chicken diseases:

We bought our girls from a great farm, however all of their chickens free range and mingle together, so each time we bring home new girls we seem to end up with a resp illness of some kind. It runs it's course and after about a week or so everyone seems well again and acting like a happy chicken. The hen that tries to lay and cannot has never shown signs of any kind of illness. She is the leader of our flock and appears very healthy. I am sure she has been exposed and possibly carries the virus, but has never been ill that I can see and I spend hours each day with our girls. I thought maybe she was broody, but she does not show the signs really. She is sweet and only lays in nesting beds for 1/2 hour or so on and off. I think I just need to be patient with her. Her vent looks good, I even went as far as Prep H and felt around up there to make sure she wasn't egg bound. Thanks for everyone's time and info!! As a new chicken owner you all have been such an important asset to me!!
