Hello,

I have a question I would like to ask. I hear a lot of times that chickens usually lay really well for the first two years and then their laying slows down. Is this true?

The reason I ask this is because I have nine golden sex links, all over a year old. Next March they will be two years old.

Should I start thinking about new chicks next year?

Just curious.

Yes, especially where HATCHERY sex links are concerned. They often spit out eggs like Pez dispensers until they succumb to a reproductive illness. If you want a bird that is less prone to reproductive illness, choose a heritage or pure bred breed. Many of us bring in new chicks every year or two, and remove the older birds to maintain a productive flock.
