I thought "egg lights"( egg candlers) as my dad calls them were to inspect weather or not the egg was fertile for hatching and to ensure that the chick was forming properly. My Dad says they are for ensuring I don't eat any forming baby chicks... Which is it?

We use them to check eggs to see if they are developing, but if you don't know for sure before you eat an egg, it would be good to know if there is a chick inside! That isn't usually a problem, unless you get your eggs from your own hens....

I would never eat a nest of hidden eggs, but if you collect eggs everyday you won't have to worry about a embryo/chick in your egg...

yes I check a few timesevery day for eggs. It would seem that some of them lay later in the morning or even in the afternoon around here. Thanks for your help!
