OK I will try to explain this without making it sound like a problem solving math question.
I have 5 Easter egg that were hatched fall 2019. They have all been laying 1 egg every 24-36 hours.
I just recently added in a 2-3 month old Gold Laced Wyandotte hen and 4 other EE’s that are 11 weeks old.
Prior to adding the 5 newbies I was getting 4 green or blue eggs and 1 brown egg. The brown egg was always noticeable smaller. I figured they are young so must have just started to lay (so I’ve been told).
Yesterday when collecting I got my normal 4 green and blue eggs and one large brown egg. Cool I though her eggs are larger.
Today I got out and there are 3 blue/green eggs and 2 brown eggs? what the heck? I was always told a hen can’t change the colour of her eggs. Or could one of my newbies really be laying eggs this young? Or can a hen actually lay 2 eggs in 24 hours?
It will be interesting to see if I get another blue/green egg today because then I will have got 6 eggs from what I thought were only 5 age ready laying hens.
