One of my peeps is six months old and had an egg in a clear sack that had a 1/2 clear hole around the egg. The sack was removed and the egg also. The sack ripped and some of it was still inside. She was free ranging and was pooing all over this mess. I gave her vitimans plus. This happened late yesterday. She is still weeping. Any help or suggestion. Thanks Folks

That is a regular thing birds will do that sometimes.

I have a few questions.

Do you feed your birds organic feed?

Do you give them oyster shells?

How many birds do you have?

Are they cramped in your coop?

If you anser these I will be able to help.

and no cramping coop is 5' x 8' and the run is 8 x 12 ' and I also let the out at times to free range on week ends. Ray

ok then that is a natural thing it happens to my birds all the time. Don't worry it's fine.

WOW thats great news. Should I clean her up? I suspect infection may set in? as I did push the sack and egg back in three times to try and get the egg to come out right. The egg and sack would not stay in. Will the bad sack come out naturaly? she just started to lay. And a Big thanks to all. She is a big Buff very large. We have four buffs and 3 austrolops.

whow, whow, whow. don't put the egg back in!! Whats done is done. It will start laying normal eggs again soon, this is NATURAL nature will fix things it's self. Also, don't be suprised if there is no-shell eggs (yes, an egg with no shell, shoshy, and fun to poke) or just a yolk. They do this cracked egg thing because the egg may be too large or derformed. Remember this is natural. Next time it happens, just let the bird be. It may also try to hide if it does that again. Birds like their privacy.
