Hi
Its day 23 and i have one pheasant egg thats pipping but need a bit of advice, its made a small crack in the egg about 1/4 inch where you would expect it to but it has stopped in that area and now it is pipping near the middle oft he egg further down is this normal ?
There are still 28 eggs that havent done anything yet but i dont want to lose this little chap if all is not well. I may be just over cautious but i have had failures before and dont want to fail this time.
Many thanks
Wayne

I think you need to leave it alone. Usually takes 24-48 hours to hatch out after it pips. Ringnecks can take up to 25 days to hatch.

I generaly will help after 24 hours after the pip if it hasnt got much bigger and there is a good bit of egg movement like its trying real hard. I have had to assist in almsot every hatching this year because of the up and down weather changes here throwing off my humidty. One day its 90 the next its 50. So air to heat. lol But if you hear a good bit of peeping and not much is happening just gently help the pip along in a straight line around the egg. Keep some warm water on hand and a qtip to help moistne the membrane if need be.

Sorry just seen the replies, but i had to takek the egg out as it had got 3/4 of the way round and then nothing was happening at all. Read all about dont open the lid but i had to, anyway the chick was stuck in the egg. Its wing was stuck to the shell and its head stuck to the wing and sheel. It had desovled the yolk sack . I have broke it out of its shell but its head still iin the position ss if it was in the shell. Hopefully iy will survive as its back in the incubator.
Does this mean my humidity is too low if they are drying up in the shell? Also will i need to help the others out..
Cheers

Sounds like your humidity is low but it could also be from opening the incubator during lockdown. Are you using a homemade incubator or one you bought. What brand and model is it? Are you sure your hygrometer is accurate? I have seen your other posts and know this is an ongoing issue for you.

I have only opened the incubator to put the eggs in lockdown this time where before inused to open it to putvwater in. Madeca watering system this time around. I only oprened it this time to take the struggling egg/chick out and that was lighning fast. The incubator is one oft he yellow ones from china and nott he best one im sure.
All i wanted was to wake up and all the eggs to have hatched on their own. It guts me to see things struggle or die thats why i helped out and know i may havevruined the other eggs. There was 29 eggs minus the one i have helped, another 3 hae tiny pip marks in the shell butt hey havent done any more than this morning. is it worth upping the humidity higher for the remaining hatch.
Next year im buying a new incubator.
Cheers

I think buying a new incubator is your best bet. Stay away from the cheap chinese ones. What is your humidity at now. I think that incubator displays a humidity reading. Its probably not accurate. I hope you have an accurate hygrometer.

Those Incubators aren't really that bad that I've seen, but the turners are the problems.
They tend to move real fast from one side to the other and back in like 30 seconds, every two hours.
This leads to chicks developing stuck to the eggs because they aren't really turning and resting on each side long enough.
A guy I know has two of them that he got cheap and then replaced the egg turner motors with motors from LG turners. It seems to work really well now.
Of course, if you are turning by hand, that doesn't explain a thing.

Thanks for the replies. I did think that about the turner moving too fast. Can you give me any more info about fitting the other turner in. i have got two other humidity readers in the bator as the one with it is really bad its 29% out .
I have the humidity at 70% now but it might be reading wrong even with the internal readers. Woulh it be worth raising it a bit more
Cheers
