Egg pipped

So cracked the egg a bit but left membrane in tact, kept it moist. Let it be for a day and nothing. Eventually opened up and the yolk was gone but the stomach was wide open. And it had passed away. Poor lil thing.

Started with 16 eggs from my girl Peep. Only 3 developed. 1 stopped developing part way through. One should pip tomorrow. And this lil one that didn’t make it.

What day are the eggs on? Did the incubator hold a stable temperature the whole time verified by a calibrated thermometer?

Also, I'd recommend taking the turner out. It's very hard for ducks to hatch with that in. I'm sorry for your loss.

I will take it out tonight. The egg that didn’t hatch was in day 27 when it pipped. This egg is on day 27 currently. It was a late addition to the batch as she walked up to me and dropped the egg right in front of me as I was getting her in her coop one night so figured.. may as well add it

Consistent temp. Raised humidity the last 3 days per everything I read on line. Peep was my first duck I kept. She’s my baby so want to have an egg if hers hatch to carry on her family so to speak

What would cause the tummy to still be open with the yolk gone?

I have only seen a duckling hatch with an open stomach with brand new layers who were not given 1-2 months to work out her kinks and seasoned layers that stopped over winter, but the eggs were collected right away when they started back up laying in the spring. I’m assuming it has something to do with either eggs being a tad on smaller side or not having adequate nutrients. That’s why every spring if a hen stopped laying over winter as soon as she starts back up I mark it on the calendar, wait for her to lay solidly for a full month and then give her poultry cell for the week before I start collecting eggs.

Peep just turned 3. She is a laying machine. Since she started laying she’s maybe missed 4 weeks combined over the 2.5 years of laying. She’s a female jumbo pekin. She’s my second biggest duck. Her eggs are the largest of all my girls. So easy to ID.

Whenever ont of my males tries to mate her she beats them up . So I went In expecting a low% to be fertilized

Unfortunately none of the ducklings managed to hatch and make it

My 3 year old grand daughter has been so excited about her “baby ducks” and it’s all she has been talking about. Been trying to figure out how to break it to her… then went to get duck food and they had ducklings in and picked up two tiny ones (obviously younger than the others in the bin) that were being pushed away by the bigger ones from the food and water dishes.

So she will have her baby ducks and we will try to hatch some of Peep’s eggs later in the spring
