Egg prices

As above, if your goal is getting rid of extra eggs, I also donate to the local food bank. However, if you want to look into this option, make sure if your local food bank takes them as local law varies place to place. Some don’t take home-produced food at all, some take only certain items, some take them if you have been inspected. And some take almost everything :)
Originally my idea was to sell eggs to get rid of extras.
Yes I have been giving extra eggs to the Salvation Army near me because I would rather give them away then sell them for $1.
I didn't think $2 a dozen was unreasonable but no one will pay $2

I have Large fowl Blue/Splash Cochins and I can sell hatching eggs from them for $5 a dozen.
I have 2 big coops right now.
One coop is for the Cochins and the other is for the rainbow color variety egg layers.
What I'm thinking about doing is selling the rainbow color variety egg layers and filling that coop with a unique breed that the hatching eggs sell very well.
Can't make money off eggs for consumption but hatching eggs sell for more.
I know hatching eggs don't sell year around but at least there would be more money to be made during hatching season.

Well my wife got the free card board egg flat cartons from her employer.
They hold 30 eggs and I took a pair of scissors to cut out 3 egg flat cartons that hold 8 eggs.
There is no top so I wrapped them in clear kitchen plastic.
I repainted my egg for sale sign so it simply says, "EGGS $1"
To all the cheapos around here it's all about the price being $1 and so far it has worked selling 8 eggs for $1.
But I have some other ideas.
Since nobody in my area will pay $2 a dozen I think I will convert my egg coop into a meat coop.
I will get a breed that's geared for meat production instead of egg production.
I'm thinking I will breed my own meat hybrid like a dark Cornish rooster X Freedom ranger hens.
Egg production will go down but eggs have no value here.
At very least I will have meaty chickens.

Dang, I used to get $2 a dozen for years and years, I have regular customers, some for the past 12-15 years.. I just recently went up to $4 from $3 for them and they are fine with it, I sell eggs up town or sometimes on the side of the road for $5 a dozen. Sometimes my wife takes 4-5 dozen at a time to work and sells them for $5 a dozen too.. there is a demand for big brown eggs around here.. always has been.. and they ain’t givin chicken feed away if y’all ain’t noticed.. good luck to you whatever you decide to do with your operation
