Egg problem

Not sure what you mean by spoiled. If you collect them fresh daily and refrigerate you should be good to go. In fact lots of folks don't fridge them at all....they just eat with them within a week or so.

My chicken egg easily get spoil. Why? And how to stop it
Hi Josh,

I am not sure why you are having issues with spoiling, but I can provide you with some suggestions for trying to reduce that problem. Pick up eggs as often as possible and get them into a refrigerator. If you see any foreign material, then brush that off the shell with your finger or a soft brush. Leaving manure on the shell can provide a source of bacteria to get into the egg. Keep those eggs below 40F and above 32F (no egg-cicles!). If you are concerned about material on the outside of the egg, then you could rinse the eggs and then put them into the refrigerator. This will remove the protective cuticle layer, but by putting it into the fridge, you can limit bacterial contamination.

How often do you collect them and how do you store them? Are they laid in the nest boxes or found and collected around the yard? If they lay where ever you have no way of knowing how old they are.

Eggs can last for several weeks and in some cases several months if stored properly so they really shouldn't be spoiling....

Are you sure they're spoiled? Or maybe you mean something else?

I check for eggs 3 times a day. But my 5 pullets lay before 9am most days. In above freezing temps I wash when I collect them. Below freezing I let them come up to room temperature before washing by leaving them in the collection bucket till evening. After washing I let them air dry a few hours in this basket.

Then I refrigerate. I sell most of the eggs and they want them washed. I rotate the eggs to use or sell the oldest first. GC
