We're considering adopting a 1.5 year old Buff Orpington and same age EE to replace dear Hazel. What sort of egg production could we expect from them? The breed selection charts on line have differing info on the BO. Hazel has been laying daily since she started 2 weeks ago (I think she skipped only one day!) and she was one of two we chose for egg production and non-broodiness when we originally crafted our flock.
Since we are only allowed 6 hens, and we eat a LOT of eggs, these are nearly as important as their personalities and being able to deal with confinement (1-3 hours free range only).
The rest of our flock is: 1 red sex-link (laying nearly daily), 1 barred rock (just started laying so don't know), 1 Australorp (not yet layiing), 1 SLW (not yet laying).
What are your experiences?
Thanks!
