Egg sales?

Hello all,

Wondering what/how everyone makes money off their eggs. I have a food co-op in my area that buys from locals by the dozen based on weight. They currently pay the farmer $3.03/dz for large sized eggs. Now based on that math and assuming all my eggs will be large(which I know are not and vary in size). When all of my hens are laying I can stand to make about 30 bucks a month strictly selling eggs to them. That doesn't factor in labeling(in case eggs have issues so the co-op can contact the farmer) and gas to get them there(I live about 20 minutes away from the store).

Now I like the idea of doing a roadside deal like a farmstand but with eggs. But other than being currently out of work due to surgery, I work for a living and am not home all the time. That in that case is based on an honor system and unfortunately speaking not everyone is honest now a days.

Anyone have any input into the scenario as a whole? Anyone have a co-op like myself nearby that buys from local producers and what do they pay? Also what's your location?

I live in northern NYS to give folks an idea of where I live.

Basically to me it seems as if it'll pay for the hobby with a tad extra on the side for regular upkeep.

Boy. How picky to add on the extra 3 cents.
I'm also in NYS. I have several regular customers. One I meet between our homes where I run my dogs. The others all work with me so I bring the eggs to work. Very convenient.
I get $3/dz.
I originally advertised on Nextdoor.com to find a customer base.
I make no money on selling eggs. I just offset some of the feed cost.

I found the extra 3 cents odd myself so when I did my math I basically excluded that 3 cents.

In the end, I'm not really trying to make boatloads of money. I more or less was posting this to find out if others had co-ops nearby or ways to sell eggs like this and it seemed fair.

I'm almost certain that this co-op is obviously up charging for at least a dollar more so they can make a bit for themselves.

My tough situation is I have a major egg producer a mile or two as a crow flies southeast of me behind my home which obviously can sell at a much cheaper rate just like supermarkets. To which many in my area would rather buy(seemingly) for a dollar rather than locally. While you still get some and I'm not looking to put walmart out as we all know that won't happen. Many people won't listen to the benefits of the added benefits nutrition wise getting them from say a local producer rather than a large scale operation like out behind my backyard.

I have some people that get eggs from me. But I don't have enough to keep up with what's being produced. That's even with being a good neighbor and giving eggs to them and giving eggs to family.

I have just a few neighbors as customers. I ask $5/dozen. They text me when they want eggs, and I drop them off whenever is convenient in the next day or so.

That's what I'm thinking the co-op is charging. I thought about setting up a roadside stand with a cooler. But that'd be based on the honor system which many people in the area do. I'm not so sure I'm so trusting. As there are dishonest people in our area(as there is everywhere). This is the only active social media type I currently have as I suspended commiebook for a multitude of reasons and thats the easiest way to sell if you can get around their algorithms.
