So I read over and over again how you must get the bad eggs out of the incubators or you'll have a big mess. How many of you have actually had an egg explode in the incubator?

Never...and I hatch a lot of eggs. I had one oozing once, but my nose caught it. If you are attentive when adding water, turning or just checking on things..you'll see the ooze and smell the smell long before an explosion.

I've never had one explode, but I've caught several with the "sniff test" that probably would have if I hadn't checked them.

I have had a button quail egg explode in my bator and I had to through my storafoam bator out.

Ahem...what does a bad egg smell like?

Or should I ask?

Probably about 13 yrs ago I was removing a stinky egg from the bator when it exploded.... OMG !!!!

I suffer from allergies and am terminally congested my sense of smell is very limited, so I can't rely on my sniffer to get them early. And not all bad ones ooze.

I find when candling you'll see that dark cloudy mass that just sloshes back and forth as you slowly rotate the egg against the light.... liquid stink baby, toss that puppy before it's too late !!!

I'm with hinkjc. You can smell those things before they decide to explode. I get rid of anything stinky quickly.

I had a weeping one once, thank goodness I got it out the door before it went poof!...talk about a funky smell ...rotten egg gas from science class comes to mind
