Egg Washing

I do not wash because it takes off the natural protection on the shell put there by mother nature. Once they are washed, must be refrigerated. The temp of the water is important, Can't remember which it is, warmer than egg or cooler.

Egg washing is a personal preference. If you wash use hot water and refrigerate. If you don't wash it is OK to not refrigerate.

I wash all eggs and refrigerate.

Yes, As hot as I can stand. I don't care if others do not wash or refrigerate, but I've worked my entire life in healthcare nutrition and there is no way I'm having unwashed eggs in my kitchen or reefer. Funny I'm not particular about other things though.

LOL..i know what you mean.. I have a hard time with this too... because i WANT to wash them so badly...(i cant stand the sight of the dirty eggs.. it grosses me out! and makes me not want to eat them...)..but then i hear that if you wash them that bacteria can get in the egg and make you sick..etc...
but.. i think i'm going to stop worrying about it and just wash them.. I'll feel better.

Thanks for all the great info. I have almost finished my coop. I want to learn all I can before I take on Chicks:D

I wash my eggs in an organic egg wash. It removes all organic material. 1/2 oz to 5 gal. of water. Water temp. should be 70 - 90 degrees. I soak mine 15 min or more then use a soft scrubbie to clean off any leftover organic material. I let them dry in a paper crate or dry them with a soft towel. I then refrigerate them. My hens are producing 3 doz. or more each day. Egg wash I use was purchased from McMurray Hatchery but I'm sure there are others out there. I live in in a small town and my local feed store doesn't carry it.
