Egg washing. Do it, or don't do it? I am confused the one best way to do this or if I even need too. If I am going to do it I only want to do it in an organic way being that we are raising organic chickens and eggs. Also...refridgeration. I know that if you put them directly in the fridge the cold will draw any bacteria on the egg inside. So I need a little advice here on how to go about this.

are you using the eggs for hatching or just selling/eating? If you are using them as fertile hatching eggs don't wash them. Personally I just use mine for eating so I gather them daily, wash off any poop or shavings, put them in a carton in the fridge.

! I do just what liz9910 does! Good luck to you!

We just give them a quick rinse and place them in a bowl on the kitchen bench. We date them so we know which are to be eaten first and have had no problem with them going off. If we have too many, we put them in a carton and give them to neighbours, friends etc.

I am just using them to eat. So far I have been leaving out on the counter for a few hours to get room temp....some I have rinse if they had anything on them, and if they looked clean i didnt. But after I left them get room temp for a few hours I put them in a carton in the fridge. I have read somewhere that if you wash them they dont keep as long cause the natural coating on them helps them keep longer. And I have head other place to absolutely wash them. So im in conflict.

How do you date your eggs? Do you just write on them? Do you have to worry about the ink leaching into the egg at all?

We use a felt tip marker. Never thought of the leeching bit. We were using a pencil but every now and then poked a hole in it with the point. Could try a darker pencil maybe. We only wash the ones with poo on them.
