Hello

well 2 days ago, we were watching the chickens from the window when we noticed one of the chickens (Betty) randomly lay an egg outside of the chicken house?! but it had no shell, it was just the membrane!

Is there any particular reason for this? they free range most of the day + we give them extra oyster shell. The only thing we could think of was that only a couple of hours before she layed it we had gotten 2 new 11 week old chicks that are being kept in a pen inside their pen, so maybe it was the excitment??!!

thankyou!

How old is she? It happens from time to time, and is more common in new layers. But even older layers do this on occasion-it's like a little "glitch" in egglaying. As long as it isn't happening all the time, I wouldn't worry about it.

She is 3, but this would have been her 1st egg of this year, so i suppose thats why
