My pullets are just starting to lay and some haven't laid yet, but one is laying daily. This morning I found a small egg with a broken yolk in the nest box. There is no shell. What does this mean? Where is the shell?

What are you feeding? Do you provide Oyster Shells separately.?

I offer Oyster Shells separately after 15 weeks old.

If all Pullets are the same breed/type you could mix Layer Crumbles with the Starter-Grower 50/50 till all are Laying.

I don't feed Layers feed. I like a feed with 18 to 20% Protein. GC

The feed is 18% protein, layers. They free range and get lots of snacks. There are crushed eggshells in the compost pile. Until this the shells have all been very hard, hardest I have handled. There are three different breeds so far. I was just worried that maybe a shell was broken inside one of them or something.

Did it have a skin around it? My chickens occasionally lay eggs that just have a skin, and it's normal:)
If there was a skin it was broken open. I could see yolk and albumin, not a trace of shell. There could have been some sort of skin, but it is all gone now so I can't tell.
